About Us

In 1970 the Department of Radiology was founded. Even though it started off as a combined Radiodiagnosis and Radiotherapy unit, the rapid advances in both the fields eventually led to their division in 1984. Since its inception, the Radiodiagnosis Department has seen an explosion of technological innovations. With its constant and timely up grads, the department has made sure to keep up with the blistering pace of recent advancements.
Kottayam Medical College is tertiary care centre functioning as a referral base for many adjoining districts. The casualty which sees a high volume of trauma cases is catered to by DR which helps get good quality images in a very short time. The casualty boasts a 128 slice CT scan machine which performs complex contrast enhanced imaging round the clock. There is an in house MRI machine which performs scheduled cases 24×7 to make up for the enormous requirements of the hospital. Casualty Ultrasound machine is manned by doctors round the clock to quickly attend to any emergency requirements. Two years ago, the department started its own Interventional Radiology Unit . This unit has OPD services along with ward services thus making it a fully clinical department. Today Interventional Radiology performs one of the largest Neuro and peripheral cases in the state.
Today, the Radiodiagnosis Department at Kottayam Medical College plays a pivotal role in supporting almost all the departments in the hospital. Regular MDTs with interdisciplinary academic sessions are a testimonial to this association. It is a sort after facility for the young PG’s who wish to join for Post-Graduation in Radiology. The academic sessions which are meticulously conducted daily boost the knowledge of the young Radiologists. Kottayam, Medical College is led by visionaries and so is sure to grow leaps and bounds in future to match the best institutions of the country.
