About Us

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is one of the founding Department of Medical College, Kottayam. The Department started functioning in the District Hospital Kottayam in 1962 and was shifted to Govt. Medical College hospital in 1975. The O&G department began functioning in the new O&G block in the year 2012. This is a 300 bedded hospital block .The Department cater for patients hailing from 5 Revenue Districts of Kerala- Kottayam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Eranakulam.
We are provide the following services. Antenatal OP providing antenatal check up & counseling, Gynaec OPD, Infertility clinic, Menopause clinic ,Trophoblastic disease clinic,, Adolescent health clinic, Family planning services. We have labour room, Emergency theatre with 2 Operation tables , septic labour room, Septic theatre, Major theatre complex with 4 operation tables ,family planning theatre, minor theatre, NSV theatre, NICU,SCNU, GICU.
The Academic Courses provided by the dept include Post Graduate MS (O&G) – 11 seats per year in addition to the MBBS
Academic Activities include Regular classes and clinical discussions and practical training for both MBBS and Post graduates, Nursing students. The Department conducts an annual CME- ‘DARSAN’. In association with Kottayam O&G society and Kerala Federation of Obstetrics & gynaecology, we conduct scientific programme every month. We are also a training centre of ‘EMOCALS’- Emergency Obstetric care and Advanced Life Support training given to all obstetriticians in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Aleppey districts
