About Us
The Department of General Medicine at Government Medical College, Kottayam is dedicated to providing comprehensive and inclusive care to its patients.From its inception in 1963, the department has provided invaluable service to the people of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kottayam districts. It provides emergency and critical care to specialized services in addition to routine inpatient, outpatient and consultation liaison services. A closeknit team of highly skilled professionals work together to provide best care possible to our patients, in addition to academic training for MBBS, MD General Medicine BDS, and various paramedical courses. The department maintains excellent synergy with its sister departments, aiding and supporting their activities.Catering to 250-300 outpatients and 100-120 inpatients every day, the department is the face of our institution.We strive to remain up-to-date with the latest advances in the field. We are proud to serve our community and are committed to delivering the best healthcare outcomes possible.
Facilities
- Practical examination hall capable of accommodating 50 students.
- Lecture hall accommodating 50 students at a time.
- PG Seminar Hall capable of seating 30 students
- Well stocked Department library with broadband internet connection
- 12 bedded Medicine ICU with telemetry system, POCUS, emergency bronchoscopy, hemodialysis and CRRT facilities
- High dependency care units attached to wards (total 20 beds)
- Geriatric ICU with ventilator facilities
