About Us
The Department of Infectious Diseases at Govt. Medical College, Kottayam caters to a wide range of patients in Central Kerala suffering from Infectious Diseases. With a team of experienced and highly trained healthcare professionals, we provide comprehensive care to patients with tropical fevers, sepsis, post-transplant Infections, community-acquired and nosocomial Infections, and offer advice regarding immunization in special populations.
Our department is the first state government-run college in the country to start DM Infectious Diseases and started the course from the 2021-2022 session with an intake of two candidates per year. The department is closely involved with the antibiotic Stewardship program as well as the Hospital Infection Control of Govt. Medical College, Kottayam. The department has a 24 bedded ward and a 5 bedded ICU. The ward has separate isolation rooms for transmissible diseases like Chickenpox/Measles and has darkroom isolation for Rabies/Tetanus. The department has a comprehensive academic program to DM students and also is involved in undergraduate training. We also are part of public health initiatives and is part of various training programs and outreach programs in the field of infectious diseases
