About Us

123 Welcome to the profile page of the Otorhinolaryngology Department at our esteemed medical college. Origin of thisdepartment can be traced right back to 1960’s when it was started as a small ENT Unit with two consultants at District Hospital Kottayam. Dr.V.O.Zachariah was the founder professor under whose guidance the department blossomed into full-fledged ENT set up. Later when Dr.C.G.Jayathilakan took over the reins of the department it was shifted from Kottayam to Gandhinagar at its present location. The department flourished subsequently under theleadership of eminent Professors Dr.A.R.Varma, Dr.Shahul Hameed, Dr.S.V.Lakshmi Narayanan, Dr.P.Prathapan Nair, Dr.Joe Jacob.K and Dr Shibu George.

Presently under the able leadership of Dr. Sadarudheen Ahmed. M, our department is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for all ear, nose, and throat related disorders. We have state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and a team of experienced and dedicated medical professionals to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.The department provides services to the patients in the following sub-specialties: Otology/Neuro-otology, Audiology, Head and Neck Cancer Surgery, Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, Rhinology, Laryngology and Phonosurgery. It is well equipped with all the latest equipment like microscopes, powered instrumentation, HD video endoscopes, co-ablator, audiometers, OAE, Impedance, BERA, speech lab.This department was institutional in training many of the finest talents in the profession since its inception.

  • Audiology and Speech Therapy: We offer audiology and speech therapy services to help patients with hearing loss, speech disorders, and language development.The department has a well-equipped speech and audiology wing with the state of art facilities for audiometry, tympanometry, BERA & rehabilitative services for cochlear implant patients. The speech therapists also take active care of patients suffering from speech and language disorders.
  • Cochlear Implant Program: Our department offers a comprehensive cochlear implant program. Our team of experts includes surgeons, audiologists, speech therapists, and psychologists who work together to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients. We have the latest cochlear implant technology available, and our team is experienced in the surgical implantation and programming of the devices.
  • Research and Education:Our department is actively involved in research with the aim of improving patient outcomes and advancing the field of Otorhinolaryngology. The department also provides education and training to medical students, residents. Currently we have an annual intake of 6 M.S (ENT) residents and teaches 175 undergraduate students every year. We are committed to training the next generation of medical professionals by encouraging active participation, fostering a collaborative learning environment,and providing feedback and support so that students develop the necessary skills and knowledge to become successful professionals in the field.
  • In addition to treating patients with ear, nose, and throat disorders, the Otorhinolaryngology department also works closely with other medical specialties like Oncology,Radiation Oncology, Plastic surgery, Neurosurgeryto provide multidisciplinary care for patients with complex medical conditionssuch as head and neck cancers.
