The postgraduate course was started in 1998 with 2 seats per year and was enhanced to 4 per year in 2022. This is one of the largest neurosurgical treatment and postgraduate training centers in Kerala, catering to the neurosurgical needs of 5 districts in central Kerala, namely Kottayam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Ernakulam.
The department office is situated in Ward 25. Patients are admitted to Neurosurgery ICU in Ward 25, Trauma ICU, Ward 25, Ward 7 and Ward 10(Trauma ward). Elective surgeries are done in Main Operation Theater complex and emergency cases are done in the Casualty theater.
