About Us

Department of Cardiology, started in 1972 in Government medical college Kottayam is known for catering thousands of patients coming from various districts of Kerala. Cardiology department has 2 units. OPD functions 6 days per week. Department has 2 cathlabs providing 24×7 primary angioplasty services.First cathlab started in 2008 and second cathlab in 2018. Department had 7 consultants- 1 Professor, one associate professor and 5 assistant professors. There are 4 DM cardiology seats and 4 BCVT seats per year. Department has daily academic activity. In addition training is provided to MD post graduates and nursing students. There are 5 well equipped ICUs in the department. Noninvasive cardiology labs and OPD function in the ground floor of cardiology- cardiothoracic block. Non-invasive lab facilities include echocardiography including transesophagial echo, TMT, Holter monitoring and Troponin estimation. Pediatric cardiology wing provides OP services and pediatric structural heart interventions.
