Government Medical College Kottayam, the third Medical College in Kerala, was established in 1962. It was formally inaugurated on 03.12.1962 by Sri.R Sankar,the then Chief Minister of Kerala in the presence of Sri.M P Govindan Nair, the Health Minister.

It has a campus which spreads across 265 acres of beautiful land shared by two panchayats (Arpookkara and Athirampuzha) and Kottayam municipality. This is a tertiary care hospital catering to people from five districts including Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam. This is the referral hospital for lakhs of pilgrims visiting Sabarimala temple.

  • 2094 bedded hospital which has about 3000 out-patients and more than 500 emergency patient visits per day.The number of in-patients being treated in this hospital is more than one lakh annually
  • There are 327 regular teaching faculty and more than 1550 other staff working in this institution.
  • Annual intake for medical undergraduate course is 175 and that for post-graduation is 146. Total annual intake for pharmacy and other para--medical courses is 196.

This college, in its sixty years of development, has become one of the top-graded academic institutions and along with that, won the trust and hope of the common man in Central Kerala as a center of excellence for advanced treatments . Institute of Child Health (ICH)

Institute of Child Health (ICH) This is located at about 1.5 kms away from the main campus of Medical college hospital

ICH was established in 1975.It houses the departments of pediatrics and pediatric surgery. It imparts curative and preventive health for children from all districts of central Kerala-Kottayam,Idukki,Pathanamthitta,Alapuzha and Ernakulam. KMC Family Health Center

The KMCFHC Ettumanoor is the Urban Health Training Centre, 8 km away from the College.

The KMCHC is under the control of Kottayam Medical College, and an Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor of the Department of Community Medicine is appointed as Administrative Medical Officer.The Block Panchayath Ettumanoor oversees the Hospital Management Committee. CHC Koodalloor

CHC Koodalloor is the Rural Health Training Centre, 18 KM away from Medical College campus.

This is a Community Health Centre under the Health Service Department of Kerala state. Pampady block panchayath overseas the hospital management committee. The institution caters mainly to Kidangoor gramapanchayath with a population of around 23000, people from nearby Kanakkari, Kadaplamattom and Ayarkkunnam Panchayaths also are benefited. All immunisation under UIP of Govt Of India are given free. With two units of specially trained palliative care team, we also male regular home visits for the bedridden. more »
